We wanted to create a space that would allow for all of the projects and ideas we have developed to be showcased together in the form of an installation. In this open gallery and studio space, our projects along with a variety of collaborations, congregate and connect to share the story of Casa Ysasi and the artists we have met along the way.
Our journey with West Adams began in 2017, when we first visited The Underground Museum, a space started by two brothers who wanted to challenge the art world’s rules and create a museum and cultural hub for their neighborhood. That visit left a lasting impression on us. It revealed how powerful it could be to build something rooted in community and intention.
By 2020, after years of working out of our garage studio and organizing pop-ups and shows, we began looking for a permanent home for Casa Ysasi. A space where we could fully realize the creative vision we had been shaping. By chance, our friend Geo had a space available next to his neon workshop on West Adams Boulevard. We took it as a sign.
We moved into 5104 West Adams and began what has become a long, ongoing transformation of a historic, rundown building into a space for making and sharing.
With the help of neighbors, friends, and countless YouTube tutorials, we slowly began the renovation process. We removed ceilings, built walls, fixed what was broken, and made the space feel warm and open. With help from friends, neighbors, and some trial and error, the building started to change.
The space became a way for us to carry forward the same spirit that started Casa Ysasi: letting curiosity lead, building with care, and collaborating with artists and crafsman and artist who inspire us. In 2024, we officially launched the space with our first solo exhibition of Santiago Serrano and the debut of our Dawn Chorus series.
Today, Casa Ysasi continues as both a working studio and a gallery. It’s a place where we make, share, and host. Offering exhibitions, dinners, workshops, and conversations.
We’re committed to growing slowly, honoring process, and creating space for artists both from LA and abroad to connect and collaborate. This project is still unfolding, and we’re excited to keep building it with care and intention.
