Chilean artist Sebastián Espejo has spent the past several weeks in Los Angeles developing and completing a new body of work for the exhibition. The pieces began elsewhere and have continued to evolve through his time in the city.

Taking the valley as both landscape and metaphor, the exhibition explores the relationship between place, material, and the boundaries that shape our experience. From the meeting of mountains and ocean in the Chilean landscape to the layered geography and architecture of Los Angeles, the valley becomes a point of encounter between distinct environments, histories, and ways of seeing.

Espejo extends this dialogue through painting, where accumulated surfaces, fragments of seashells, and paint caps become part of the work's material language. Begun in London and Chile and completed in Los Angeles during his residency, the paintings trace a movement between places, revealing the layers and connections that emerge through observation and lived experience.

The exhibition explores Espejo's approach to painting through traces of pictorial practice: the stain, the graphic, and the plane, using the language of poetry as a way of observing the everyday. The resulting works are quiet and understated, but deeply considered, shaped in part by the movement between Chile and Los Angeles and the environments in which they were made.
