Joan Fontcuberta Villà

Joan Fontcuberta, born in Barcelona, Spain, graduated in communications in 1977 before making a mark in advertising. He later became a professor at the University of Barcelona and, since 1993, has taught audiovisual communication at Pompeu Fabra University. Fontcuberta co-founded PhotoVision in 1980 and remains its Editor in Chief. His career includes a stint as a visiting lecturer at Harvard University in 2003 and serving as the artistic director of the 1996 Rencontres d'Arles. Despite losing a finger to a homemade bomb, Fontcuberta humorously claims to be a "terrible photographer." In 2013, he won the Hasselblad International Award in Photography.
